we were sailing along... on moonlight bay

i went to krabi for a short getaway with a few of my friends over the weekend. it was a beautiful place with the little island of phi phi being exceptionally so. the journey by ferry to and from the island was quite taxing but the great scenery all the way there more than made up for it. the sun and the sea, clear blue sea at that, really perked up the already tired senses. a great, and i must add, cheap, thai massage at the end of the whole trip really was the icing on the cake.

1 interesting thing to add. we actually went through 4 airports for this trip. we flew from changi t1 and landed at krabi airport. when we left, we took off from a brand new krabi international airport, which incidentally opened on the same day as our budget terminal. we, of course, landed in the new budget terminal back here in singapore, just its 2nd day in operation. therefore, we effectively went through 4 different airports.

the sea and the sight of sail boats made me thought about my sailing days of past. aaaaaaa...

'we were sailing along, on moonlight bay,
i can hear the voices singing...
(singing)
they seemed to say,
(what did they say)
you have stolen my heart,
don't go away,
as we sing this lone sweet, song by moonlight bay.'

i think this was roughly how it went, a song which we sang during my army days. used mainly during road marches and long journeys.

of curry puffs and prata...

a typical studying day back in U.

arrive at school at around 9 plus. some of us came even earlier but i believe most would have arrived and seated by 9.30am. of course, with each batch of arrivals, those who were already there, will stop and idle chat for about 10 mins. some of them even brought breakfast and tidbits. that contributed to another 20 mins of time spent on food. we got down to actual studying at around 10am.

at the top of every hour, plus minus 10 mins, i would stop for my 10 mins (sometimes longer) break. the smokers among us would go for their smoke break. the non-smokers usually followed. i guess the 2nd hand smoke did went to our brains and made us smarter, or maybe dumber... hmmm...

12pm, lunchtime. it would take us about 15 mins in order to discuss where to have lunch and another 10mins to take orders from those who wanted to 'dine in'. lunch was usually more than an hour.

coming back at 1.30pm was the norm, and it would take us another half an hour in order to settle down back to our notes and books. the usual hourly breaks took place.
3pm and it was teatime. give it another 10 mins for the volunteers to take orders, typically curry puffs from the north spine capped off with teh terik.

5pm and it was our official breaktime. a whole bunch of us played football while the rest just chatted. no real amount of studying could be done at this time, since the everyone will be making too much noise.

dinnertime brought about another round of discussion as to where would be the ideal place to eat. after dinner, those with living in the hostels would make their way back to take a shower after along day. the rest continued slogging.

come 10pm plus, it was suppertime. all gathered to settle on what sort of prata to get for the night. plaster was a fave back then.
some stayed on after supper to study a bit more and usually ended their day at around 1am. others, like me, who needed my beauty sleep, retired at around 11.30pm.

i guess from the timetable above, you would tell that many of us ended up with below average grades. i was just wondering, could it be because we were eating too much food? hmmm...

friends will be friends

last week, a friend whom i had not heard from for over 1 year called. the last time i saw him was on his ROM day. i had helped out with the photo taking. now, over a year later, he called to inform me of the date to his wedding dinner, and he was asking me to help out as well.

over the weekend, another friend whom i had not heard from for ages called. i must admit that he was one of those whom i did not mind not contacting. well, the usual chit chat and how are you getting along conversation. then he asked for the old gang of friends to meet up and he mentioned that he would like to organize a get-together. i gave him my email and i'm still waiting for him mail. oh well...

as time goes by, we get along with our lives and the priorities shift. i remember a time when i longed to go to school because that was where all my buddies were. that time had long pass. thats just me, always reminiscing.
